SEO Cost in India

There is no single price for SEO in India, and an agency that quotes one before looking at your website is guessing. The cost depends on five things: how many locations or markets you want to rank in, how competitive your keywords are, the state of your website today, how much content and link-earning the plan needs, and who actually does the work.

Most agencies charge a monthly retainer. This guide explains each factor, so you can compare quotes on what they include rather than on the number alone.

What Sets The Price Of SEO

Scope. A single clinic or shop that wants to show up in its own neighbourhood needs far less work than a brand competing across India, or an online store with thousands of product pages. Local SEO leans on your Google Business Profile and listings. National and ecommerce SEO lean on content, site structure and links.

Competition. Ranking for “dentist in Salt Lake” is a different job from ranking for “best credit card”. The stronger the sites already on page one, the more work it takes to earn a place among them.

Your starting point. A fast, well-built site with some history needs refinement. A site with technical problems, thin pages or a past penalty needs repair first, and repair takes time.

Content and links. New pages, rewrites, guides and the outreach that earns links from other sites are often the largest part of an SEO budget. Ask how many pieces a month a quote includes, and who writes them.

Who does the work. A freelancer, a small specialist team and a large agency price differently, and much of the difference is seniority. The useful question is not how big the agency is, but who will actually work on your account.

How SEO Agencies In India Charge

Monthly retainer. The most common model. You pay a fixed fee each month for an agreed set of work: technical fixes, content, local SEO, link-earning and reporting. It suits SEO because results build over months.

One-off audit or project. A technical audit, a site migration or a content overhaul, priced as a single piece of work. It is useful before you commit to a retainer, or if you have an in-house team to carry out the fixes.

Hourly consulting. Common for advice and training, less common for delivery.

Performance-based pricing. Paying per ranking or per lead sounds safe but often isn’t. It rewards the agency for easy, low-value keywords, and it can encourage the shortcuts Google’s spam policies penalise. For clinics and hospitals there is a further problem: payments tied to patient numbers can run into the fee-splitting rules in medical ethics regulations.

Most SEO invoices in India also carry GST at 18%, so check whether a quote includes it.

What A Fair SEO Quote Should Spell Out

Two quotes at similar prices can contain very different amounts of work. A fair quote is specific about deliverables, and just as specific about what you keep if you leave. The table below shows the difference.

What a clear SEO quote says, and the vague version to question.

Red Flags In Cheap SEO Packages

Guaranteed rankings. Google itself says no one can guarantee a top ranking. Anyone promising page one in 30 days is either guessing or planning shortcuts.

Link counts as the main deliverable. “500 backlinks a month” usually means directory blasts, link farms or private blog networks. These are exactly what Google’s spam policies target, and cleaning up afterwards can cost more than the package did.

Content at scale with no review. Dozens of AI-written articles a month, published without editing or expertise, look a lot like the scaled content abuse Google’s spam policies go after.

Accounts you don’t control. If the agency creates your Business Profile or Search Console under its own login, getting them back can be painful.

Reports that only show rankings. Rankings for obscure phrases are easy to inflate. Ask what the work did for enquiries and sales.

Stars and price ranges in an agency’s own search result. Some agencies add review and price markup to their service pages so that stars show up in Google. Google’s guidelines don’t support review stars based on reviews a business publishes about itself, so treat them with some caution.

Freelancer, Small Agency Or Large Agency?

A good freelancer can be excellent value for a single-location business with simple needs, as long as they are reachable and you can see their past work. The risk is capacity: one person, one inbox.

A small specialist agency usually puts senior people on the account and covers more ground, with technical SEO, content and local SEO under one roof. Ask exactly who will do the work.

A large agency brings process and breadth, which matters for big sites and several markets. Smaller accounts there are sometimes handled by junior staff, so check who your day-to-day contact will be.

How To Compare Two SEO Quotes

Put them side by side and ask the same five questions of each. What exactly is delivered each month? Who does the work, and how senior are they? How will results be reported: in enquiries, or only in rankings? Who owns the accounts and content if you part ways? And what do the first three months look like?

The cheaper quote is often cheaper because it includes less. Sometimes that is fine. Just make sure you are comparing like with like.

Do You Need A Separate Budget For AI Overviews?

Probably not. Google’s guidance for site owners says there are no extra requirements or special optimisations for appearing in AI Overviews and AI Mode beyond normal SEO best practice. Pages that rank well and answer questions clearly are the ones that tend to get cited.

So be wary of “GEO packages” sold as a separate product. The work that improves AI visibility is mostly good SEO: accurate, specific, well-structured pages, a complete Business Profile and genuine mentions on other sites.

How Boost It Junior Quotes SEO

We don’t publish a price list, because two businesses rarely need the same thing. Instead we start with a short audit of your site, your Business Profile and your competitors, then send a flat monthly quote that lists every deliverable, who does it and how results will be reported.

For clinics and hospitals, the fee is never linked to patient numbers. If you are a Kolkata business, our page on SEO services in Kolkata shows what a local engagement covers, and our SEO services page covers national work. Healthcare practices can also read our guide to digital marketing for doctors.

The Bottom Line

SEO in India can cost very different amounts, and the number on a quote says little on its own. Judge a quote by what it includes, who does the work and how results will be measured. Avoid guarantees, link counts and lock-ins, and expect a good agency to explain its price in plain words.

Boost It Junior quotes a flat monthly fee after a short audit, with every deliverable written down. Ask us for a quote.

FAQ

SEO Cost In India: Common Questions

It varies widely with scope, competition, your site’s starting point, the volume of content and links, and who does the work. A local business targeting one city needs far less than a national brand or a large online store. Ask for a quote based on an audit, and compare quotes on their deliverables.

Sometimes, if the scope is small and the work is genuine. The danger is packages that reach a low price through link farms, mass-produced content or ranking reports with little real work behind them. Those can cost more to clean up than they saved.

Because the work varies so much between businesses that a fixed price list either overcharges small sites or under-delivers for large ones. A good agency should still explain its pricing logic clearly and put the deliverables in writing.

Usually not. Audits and technical fixes can be one-off projects, but rankings depend on ongoing content, links and maintenance as competitors and Google’s systems change. Most businesses treat SEO as a monthly cost and review it every few months.

Check each quote. SEO services in India generally attract GST at 18%, and some quotes include it while others add it to the invoice.

For local businesses, improvements to the Business Profile and key pages can bring enquiries within a few months. Competitive national keywords take longer, often six months or more. Ask an agency what it expects in the first quarter, and how it will show progress before rankings move.

With Google Ads you pay for each click plus any management fee, and the traffic stops when the spending stops. With SEO you pay for the work, and the results can keep bringing visits after the work is done. Our guide to SEO vs paid ads covers when each makes sense.

No. A business that wants customers in Kolkata needs local SEO: a strong Business Profile, accurate listings and pages that match how people in the city search. That is usually a smaller job than national SEO. See our page on SEO services in Kolkata.
