Google Business Profile Suspended? A Recovery Checklist

A suspended Google Business Profile can vanish from Maps overnight, taking your calls and reviews with it. Google suspends profiles that don’t follow its guidelines, and it lets you appeal once.

So the order matters: find the cause, fix it, gather your evidence, then appeal. Here is how to do that without making things worse.

What A Suspension Means

Google may suspend or disable profiles that don’t follow its guidelines. When a profile is removed, the public can’t see it and you can’t act on it. If your whole Google Account is restricted, every profile you manage is suspended and you can’t create or claim others until the restriction is lifted.

Sometimes a profile stays visible but you lose the ability to edit it, which SEO practitioners often call a soft suspension. Either way, the fix starts with understanding what went wrong.

Common Reasons Profiles Get Suspended

Keywords in the business name. Adding a service or city, such as ‘Best Dentist Kolkata’, to your registered name breaks Google’s guidelines.

An address you don’t operate from. Virtual offices, mailboxes and addresses where you have no staff during opening hours are common triggers.

A visible address customers can’t visit. If you serve customers at their location, your address should be hidden and your service areas listed instead.

Duplicate profiles. Two profiles for the same business, often created by different staff or agencies.

Details that don’t match. A name, address or phone number that differs from your website, signboard or documents.

An ineligible business. Businesses that only operate online can’t have a profile.

Large sudden edits. Changing your name, address and category at once can prompt Google to review the profile again.

What Not To Do

Don’t create a new profile for the same business. Google says so explicitly, and it usually makes things worse.

Don’t appeal before you’ve fixed the cause. Google says appeals can only be submitted once, so make that one count.

Don’t keep editing the profile while you wait. Repeated changes make the record harder to review.

Don’t pay for ‘guaranteed reinstatement’. Nobody outside Google can promise one.

The Recovery Checklist

1. Find the likely cause. Read Google’s Business Profile guidelines against your profile, line by line, and compare it with the reasons above.

2. Fix the profile. Use your real registered name, the right address or service-area setting, and the category that describes your business.

3. Make everything match. Update your website, signboard photos and main listings so the name, address and phone number are identical.

4. Gather evidence. Google suggests official business registration, a business licence, tax certificates and utility bills for electricity, phone, water or internet. For an Indian business that can mean your GST certificate, Udyam registration or trade licence. The name and address on every document must match the profile.

5. Appeal through the Business Profile appeals tool. Sign in with the Google Account linked to the profile, choose the profile, attach your evidence and explain briefly what you’ve corrected. If your account itself is restricted, lift that restriction first.

6. If the appeal is denied, you can request an additional review through Google’s contact form and add evidence you didn’t include the first time.

How Long It Takes

Google doesn’t publish a timeframe. It emails you the decision once the appeal has been reviewed.

While you wait, keep enquiries coming through the channels you still control: your website, your other listings, social media and, if needed, a small ad campaign. Our guide to Justdial and Google Business Profile explains how other listings fit in.

How To Avoid Another Suspension

Keep your business name exactly as registered. Only show an address where customers can genuinely visit you. Keep your details identical everywhere, make changes gradually, limit who has manager access, and check the profile regularly for edits suggested by the public.

Keep scans of your registration and address documents somewhere easy to find, because Google may ask for them again. Our Google Business Profile guide covers the settings that keep a profile healthy.

The Bottom Line

A suspension is fixable more often than not, but only if you fix the cause before you appeal. Correct the profile, make your details match everywhere, gather documents with the same name and address, and appeal once, properly. Then keep the profile clean so it doesn’t happen again.
